It's Monday, What Are You Reading??

Happy Monday once again! It's been a fantastic week for me, both reading-wise and in general :) I finished up two online classes last week so now I have just two classes until the end of the month then it's summertime baby! Not that it's any different for me than normal...I will still be taking classes and working...but it will be warm and I will be going to the lake on weekends! Also, I just registered for the World Steam Expo! Holy Awesomesauce Batman! It's going to be effing amazing. I am a platinum registeree so I will be attending High Tea, the Grand Steam Ball, and you may or may not see me competing in the Miss World Steampunk Pageant! Nevertheless, there is sure to be everything that tickles the Steampunk's fancy so you should definitely register and come along! Now then...as for what I read/will read this week...

Books I Read:
Fins Are Forever was the delightful sequel to Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs, the continuing adventures of Princess Waterlily Sanderson. Lily is a mermaid who gave up everything, her throne, her family, and her undersea life for the boy that she loves...but now her kingdom, and all the other merpeople kingdoms are in danger and Lily has to decide if you can ever really give up being a princess, even for love.... I really enjoy this series. I usually read something from TLC when I need a break from the bleak and heavy and that is exactly what you get with Fins Are Forever: a cute, sweet, light read to brighten your mood.

Everneath is a retelling of the Persephone and Eurydice myths. It was painful, heartbreaking, and dramatic...but was not really my cup of tea. I love mythological retellings and fairy tales and I especially adore love stories so I thought that Everneath was going to be a sure thing for me...but I just couldn't get into it. I almost stopped several times, and the only thing that kept me going was that it was pretty short. There isn't any real plot, just Nikki suffering and causing her friends and family to suffer and you kind of feel like curling up in a ball and crying for how depressed the book leaves you...

Oh.My.EFFING.God...I LOVED Hammered! I knew before starting it that I loved both the series and the author Kevin Hearne, but Hammered has solidified my Iron Druids Obsession to a new height. Seriously...I laughed out loud more times than I would like to admit and the story was an amazing punch of action to the nether regions...If you haven't read a chase scene that was narrated in alternating Shakespeare quotes and lolcatz, then you probably wouldn't understand...but you had best get on the Iron Druids bandwagon NOW because you are missing out!

Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins has been on my TBR pile forEVA! I was super glad I finally got to it because it was definitely a quick and fun book to read. The "supernatural academy" idea has kind of been played out recently, but Hawkins makes her's stand out by incorporating demons, fairies, werewolves, vampires, AND witches...which is sweet. Plus there is a lot of family drama and back story which I love. I liked the LURVE interest in HH, but I felt that it ended rather abruptly for my tastes...also...there was a LOT more death than I was expecting...still...a very fun read and I can't wait to get my hands on Demonglass!

The Mythos Academy books have also been on my TBR pile for a while. I won them from another blogger ages ago and I somehow forgot they were there. Luckily I remembered last week and got my fill of kick-ass Spartans, Amazons, Valkyries, etc. The Mythos Academy is again an example of the supernatural school, but it was kind of original in that the only students were hardcore warrior beast people. The students are trained to fight the Norse God Loki in his battle to create chaos. I am always interested to see which god or gods becomes the badguy, and I thought Loki was an odd choice to be evil because he is known for mischief and hijinks and tricking people, but Jennifer Estep made it work. I will be looking forward to when book 3 comes out!

What I Plan on Reading This Week:

This week will be a tough one to get in my reading hours. I am spending a large part of it driving across the state of Michigan several times so that I can go to school, go to my cousins wedding, participate in Relay for Life, and then attend a writing seminar in Ann Arbor...I'm hoping to knock out a few audiobooks during that time, but if I'm driving with other people in the car that might not happen. I also want to get to Divergent because everyone is in a frenzy about the release of Insurgent soon so I might as well see what all the hype is about. Happy Reading Everyone!

  1. It sounds like you have a busy week ahead! Good luck squeezing in audiobook time. I put them on my Ipod and read them when I'm driving, cooking, cleaning, etc. I can't wait to read your thoughts on World War Z!

  2. I'm sorry Everneath was disappointing for you. Re-tellings are so hit and miss. I read Entwined a week or two ago. It was the 12 Dancing Princesses story. It was pretty good.
Have a great week and good luck with finishing up those last two classes!

  5. The World Steam Expo sounds like a blast! My husband has learned to identify steampunk when he sees it, so maybe this is something I could drag him to in the future... Enjoy your week!
