Today is Follow Friday hosted by the Fabulous Parajunkee :)
Q. Genre Wars! What is your favorite genre and which book in the genre made it your favorite??
I have been leaning heavily towards Dystopian for a while now. The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins was this earth-shaking experience for me that lead me down the destructive, depressing, occasionally hopeless path of Dystopian novels. I also really enjoyed Maria Snyder's Inside Out/Outside In books. I don't know what exactly speaks to me about them...There is always this underlying threat that what is happening in the novel could come to pass if we aren't careful. Most Dystopias are deeply pensive commentaries on our society and I am such a nerd that I adore that...it makes me feel all intellectual and stuff :D But seriously....why read cheesy, happy love stories when you can read about oppression, senseless death, and revolution??
What do you think? Love/Hate the Genre? Not enough romance? Too much Violence??? Leave a comment and let me know :) I will be sure to follow you and comment on your post too!

Personally, The Hunger Games was what started me out on dystopians, and ever since I finished the final book in the Hunger Games trilogy, I've been hooked. I'm a paranormal romance girl, and I love swooning after a tragic werewolf just as much as the next girl. But, sometimes you need a bit more substance: which is where the dystopians come in. :D

Lol @ Meghann ha No worries, I figured it out eventually :D
ReplyDelete@bookdout...Up until recently I was a total UF freak too...I just have been UF'ed out for the last few months...too many similar plots and flat characters...hopefully I'll be able to find an author to re-vamp (pun intended) my love for the genre :D
dystopian fiction is very popular today on FF, and I can't blame everyone for loving it, it's always such an incredible read.
ReplyDeleteI like how you described it as 'deeply pensive commentaries,' other than being a perfect way to describe the genre it's also a beauitful description (maybe that's just me!).

I love The Hunger Games. I like dystopian but I prefer it to be post apocalyptic as well. I love the messiness of it.
ReplyDeleteHi & Happy Friday!

ReplyDeleteI chose Dystopian as well! I'm really, really enjoying this genre!
Happy Hopping!
I was totally hooked by Hunger Games to, though I have found other favorites. I love that, though far fetched, these worlds the authors created could on some level actually exist in the future at least on some level. Plus they have the right amount of action, romance and intrigue.
ReplyDeleteJust stopped by for the #FF Hop! It's always fun sharing about great books.
