Synopsis:
Barely more than a girl, Sannah is taken by a man who is both warrior and shaman in a winter raid on her Stone Age camp. But Memmet believes the spirits have given her to him and he will keep her at any cost.

Two strong people must find the reason they have been brought together, because lives depend upon it.

~My Thoughts~
Sannah, a young girl just coming into her own womanhood is captured during an unexpected and unusual raid on her village in the dark heart of winter. Dreams of being partnered with a loving husband when the spring comes are dashed, as she is taken by Memmet and held captive.

Memmet, a shaman and warrior, has a vision. The only way to keep his dying clan alive is to raid in the winter and steal away the women and children of another clan if they have any hope for the future. Yet the girl he finds is not what he expected. He is determined to win her over and make her his for the sake of the survival of his own clan.

Miriam has a writing style that is both visual and active. I felt wind stripping the trees and playing with the main character's hair and you could almost smell the earth and forest based off of her descriptions. There's nothing better than that for me, as I can really immerse myself in the world and the characters. I could have done with a little more emotion from the leads, as although I could feel physically what they were feeling, it did seem that I was more told what they were emotionally feeling (ex: she was scared) as opposed to actually feeling what she was feeling (ex: her pulse jumped to her throat and she struggled to breath as she was tossed unceremoniously to the ground). Still, all in all, it was a very good read. You really don't find too many historical fiction or historical romance novels back beyond really the Renaissance, perhaps ancient Egypt, but I enjoyed the change of country and venue as well as the calmer and more primitive scenes.

As if somehow reading his thoughts, she stirred, sleepily touching his face.

“Why do you have no beard?”

He was startled.  “I never thought about it.  None of us do.  It is usually warm here.  Perhaps we don’t need them.”

“Hmmm.”

“Why?  Don’t you like it?”

“It’s all right,” she murmured.  “I just wondered.”

She was silent a long time and he thought she had gone back to sleep, but she hadn’t.  She moved her fingers from his face to his throat, lightly.  “Somehow now I do not like the thought of a blade cutting you.”

He tightened his arm around her.  “Is that why you have not taken my weapons?”

“Probably.”

She lay back again, one hand on his throat, the other tucked against his chest.  Her breath was warm on his arm.  It was the way he had always wanted to hold her and which she had always resisted, until now.

“In the morning we will move the horses so they can have grass,” he said.  “We will go to the upper meadows.  It is pretty there.  I will take you.”

“I have not seen those animals called seals yet, either,” she replied.

He laughed softly.  “Are you bargaining with me?  Very well.   I will take you one day out to the islands where they breed.  There are as many of them as stars in the sky.  They are not my favorite meat, but the skins are excellent.  A coat from sealskin would be the best one you could ever hope for.”

She looked at him in a subtle challenge.  “I’m not bargaining, I already know what you want.”

~Meet Miriam!~
Fantasy poetry driven by myths and legends has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I was published in poetry before catching the romance writing bug. I bring that background to my writing along with a lifelong addiction to horses, an 18 year career in various areas of psychiatric social services and many trips to Ireland, where I nurture my muse. My published works range from contemporary fantasy romance to fantasy historical, futuristic, science fiction and historical romance. Currently I live in rural Pennsylvania with a “motley crew” of rescue animals.
Miriam will be awarding a $25 Amazon or Barnes and Noble GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.a Rafflecopter giveaway

  4. Thanks, everyone, for stopping by. I'm excited about this book for a few reasons. First, it is my first self published book in quite some time. It's a very "different" romance, so I took the chance on it myself, not knowing what the market would be for this category. The readers will tell me! Additionally, I selected the images myself and then the cover was created for me. So that was fun. Hope I got it right, LOL. This book is a different one for sure but I enjoyed writing it.
