HER CAPTAIN is the Capricorn entry in the limited “Tempting Signs” series from Fated Desres Publishing. Each new book, by a different author each month, has the hero or heroine – or both – born under the zodiac sign for that month. Since HER CAPTAIN releases December 15 – and the sun traverses Capricorn December 22 through January 19 – my hero, Slate Claybourne is, you guessed it – a Capricorn.

He’s an ex-Navy SEAL and he exhibits all the characteristics of a true Cappie – he’s loyal, steadfast, responsible and patient. Practical and prudent. Ambitious and disciplined. And doesn’t have a spontaneous bone in his body.

At least, that is, until he meets the fiery, impulsive and feisty heroine, Holly Harper, a speak-before-you-think Aries, who sparkles like the diamond that is her birth sign.

Aries is a fire sign. Capricorn in an earth sign. Slate’s last name is Claybourne! And yes, I thought about that and yes, it was a deliberate choice. Capricorn’s sign is the Sea Goat. Slate is an ex-Navy SEAL.

Yin meet yang. Night meet day. Mutable force meet immoveable object.

Every one of Holly’s most compulsive, impulsive brain waves fluttered like a hummingbird wing. Slate Claybourne affected her like the aftershock of an earthquake. Abuzz with excited tremors, she didn’t know whether to leap into his arms and climb him or run screaming away in the other direction.

Oh, yes, you do know, girlie-girl, one of the imps on her shoulder crooned.

Danger, danger, Will Robinson, the imp on the other shoulder screamed in warning protest.

Why had her father told her to search out the former SEAL? The “if you’re reading this”letter he’d sent—not to be opened until she’d met Captain Claybourne—burned a hole beneathher pillow at Pieberry House, still unopened and unread.
