Synopsis:
Sam Coalson, ex-Navy SEAL, has returned to Grafton for the wedding of his brother. After being run out of town fifteen years ago for a crime he didn’t commit, he’s determined to claim what is rightfully his and take on anyone crazy enough to try and stop him.

Angel Devereaux is smart, sexy and definitely on Sam’s blacklist. After siding with Sam’s enemy fifteen years ago, Angel can’t help but wonder what if….what if Sam had never left? What if he could forgive her now? She had her reasons, but he won’t listen. So enough with words, sometimes action is exactly what’s called for.

Book Two in my Tempered Steel series, Leather and Lace, has been written for awhile. I was a little hesitant to try and publish the series after the many rejection letters I received from publishers. But it wouldn’t leave me alone, so I decided to give it one more shot.

The entire series revolves around the efforts of one family, the Coalsons, to rebuild their community after a devastating flood. I know just how horrific a flood can be to a small town like Grafton, Illinois, the setting of my series. My friends and family lived through the Mississippi River Flood of 1993.

My family and I actually lived in the Grafton area for several years. We moved in February of 1993, but my daughter went to kindergarten at the Grafton School and my son was baptized at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. I saw the pictures on the news. I heard the stories from other family members, but unless you are actually there, you just can’t fathom that type of destruction. It gave me the idea for this series.

It’s a story about real life struggle, and how fate plays a hand in life. Sam Coalson comes home for his brother’s wedding. He’s been gone for fifteen years. Now an ex-Navy SEAL, he has no intention of making the same mistakes he made as a kid. Namely, his biggest mistake was falling in love with Angel Devereaux. But Angel is determined to make Sam see reason. She wants to explain why she turned her back on him so many years ago. And she will go to any lengths to get him back in her life.

Although the series is romantic fiction, many of the places and events portrayed are in Grafton, Illinois. Leather and Lace has humor, suspense, and a healthy dose of erotic romance, along with sites many locals would recognize. The bluffs, the river, Pere Marquette Lodge, and the marina, as well as several local businesses, names changed, of course, are all a part of the Coalson family saga.

So I had the stories and the settings. Now, I just had to find someone to make it real.

Here again is where fate plays a hand. A friend of a friend living in Grafton, IL, went to school with a graphic designer. Turns out, she does book covers for many of the bestselling authors on the market today. And, she lives a few miles from Grafton. She was happy to help out; not only with cover design, but also with editing and marketing. Her ideas, not only for book one, Whistlin’ Dixie, but for the entire series, make my publishing journey complete.

So that’s how I ended up here, promoting the second book in my first series, and getting to meet such wonderful new fans. It is, indeed, a small world. I hope to make it a more romantic one.

Enjoy!

He spun around and stalked towards her, but she held her ground in the middle of the room. “One minute you’re drinking wine with me and the next thing I know, you’re dancing at a strip bar, naked for all intents and purposes. Swinging your ass and looking like you want to screw the fat pig and his boss. He’s the one that beat me. Did you know that?”

Sam continued to advance on her. “And you don’t even want to know what he was gonna do to you if he could’ve gotten a chance.” Sam’s good eye began to twitch at the thought of the danger she had been in. She had no sense, but by God before the night was over, she would know to never put herself in danger again. He’d see to that. Apparently, she’d been flying wild these past fifteen years. Well, that was ending now.

Angel threw her arms up in exasperation. “Oh that’s just great. Just swell, dandy, fine. I try to save your miserable ass and you’re accusing me of being unfaithful. Well, of course you would. You can’t trust me, remember? I turned against you once, right? So therefore, I’ll do it again, right?” she screamed at him as tears ran down her face. It was just too much! She couldn’t stand his mistrust anymore.

“I had everything under control. There was no need for your ‘help’ as you call it,” he growled at her. He kept seeing the lecherous looks of those men and the hands reaching out to touch those perfect breasts. She was his, dammit! No one touched his Angel.

“Oh yeah, right. I can tell you had everything well in hand. You were locked up, beaten up, and completely outnumbered. Oh, and the FBI was considering you an accomplice in the whole mess. They didn’t care if you were dead or alive. Yeah, you had them shakin’ in their shoes, all right.” She’s wiped her tears. “I was sick and scared for you, yet you’re so stupid you have the audacity to question my loyalty to you.”

    1. Mai, Iisten to music that reflects the scene you're trying to write. I find that helps me. Hard, angry rock for suspense scenes or fight, soft jazz for romance, and dance pop for booty shaking sex scenes works for me!!

    1. While Whistlin' Dixie is a fun romance with a PG-13 rating, Leather and Lace is a bit darker with a more erotic feel.

Oh, and I like a little leather and lace myself...lol
