Synopsis:
Among the close-kin clans of western farms and gelf ranches of Malfesian Murians times are good. Full barns, fat gelf calves and large families thrive among the sprawling grain fields and hamlets around the river from which they derive their name—the Feldon. Word comes with the trade caravans that times are not so good in the regions far to the east: tumultuous changes stir among the remote province of Bleikovia.

Outnumbered and unprepared, Feldovats resist a hoard bent on plunder and conquest. Days of battle along the Feldon River stain the riverbanks in green Murian blood. In the finals days of exhausted fighting, Judikar Klarvko Celo of the Feldovat Clan Klarvkon is fatally stabbed with slow-acting selvon poison. The Judikar’s consort Klarvkaa Etkaa becomes Regentkaa. With Celovat Field Commander Korvo Celo serving as her advisor, she leads the demoralized Feldovat survivors on a gruesome ill-prepared winter trek through high mountain passes of ice and blizzard snow in an attempt to elude the Green Dragon forces of the Bleikovats. Etkaa’s only son, Klarvko Celo II, helps spirit Feldovat young across a remote mountain exodus toward Eedov Province. The battered, starving Feldovats reach the Malfesian coast at Eedov City only to be confronted with their implacable enemy determined to destroy the remaining Klarvkon rabble. On arrival in Maalon City they are welcomed among their Maalon hosts, and settle into a new life.

But famine and a pandemic pestilence stir old hates. The enraged Overseers of Bleikovia move against the Klarvkons, bringing bloodshed to Maalonovia. The exiles from the Feldon must fight still again, but starvation and plague across the Planete Myr make this a different war from the Feldon… a na’ä blikovat… the Bleikovvat Phenomenon… an event with unexpected consequences none could have foreseen. Before the killing is exhausted, the Regentkaa Klarvkaa and her son are swept onto the Maalon throne, setting the Klarvkon Dynasty and the Murians toward an intergalactic golden age, and a star-flung destiny the farmer-herder Feldovat could never have envisaged.

Savage disruptions fell to the northeast, far beyond the river of the Feldovats. Like a great hungry migrating herd, the well-provisioned Bleikovat invasion stormed across the sparsely settled Bremanovion uplands and adjacent borders with Dornovia. The onslaughts organized and coordinated. Clan Elder Heldo Dorno’s call to arms came too late. Dornovats and Bormeikovats fought side by side, their uncoordinated resistance fierce, and just as quickly, subdued and overrun. Bleikovat slash-and-burn strikes were no tribal skirmishes, and did not stop until the Green Dragon banner of their legionnaires reached the northern ice fields along the frontiers of the Feldovat provinces. In the confusion of burning fields and farms, Elder Heldo Dorno and a large band of Dornovat fighters slipped across the ill-defined borders into the provinces of the Feldovats. Bleikovat ground units sealed off the borders. Dornovia and Bormeikovia provinces were put under military occupation.

In the market square of Dorno’s largest settlement, a cordon of armed legionnaires rounded up bewildered and confused Dornovats. In full battle armor, the imperious Bleikovat Field Overseer stepped up onto the podium. His stone-faced gaze fixed above the heads of the sullen faces below him. His aide read the first diktats. "A new era of political arrangements is proclaimed. By the Overseers of Bleikovia supreme obiter dicta—Dorno is annexed into greater Bleikovia-Dorno. Dornovat males of clanhood now serve under Bleikovat commands. Any Malfesovian formerly of Bremanovia and Dorno not following Bleikovat orders will be arrested. Henceforth, outer garments, including tunic, toga, khiton or cape, must bear the Green Dragon crest of Clan Krrakov of Bleikovia. The Dragon crest will be worn in the center of a shield, on the upper left shoulder or below left mid-waist. Display of other crests is forbidden. Any Malfesovian, Dornovat or Bremanovat in possession of shields, toga or banner bearing crests other than the Green Dragon of the Krrakovats will be executed.”

Vault of Secrets, the first book in the Ingram series, was followed by Nymrod Resurrection, Blood and Gold, and The Lady of Corpsewood Manor. All have received national attention.  Walking the Pet is Hawk’s latest release in the Ingram series. The first book in another mystery-thriller series is scheduled for release in 2015. The Bleikovat Event, the first volume in The Cairns of Sainctuarie science fiction series, was released in 2012. Its sequel, The Missing Planets, has just been released.
Hawk MacKinney will be awarding a $25 Amazon/BN GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.

    4. Don't know how all these typos are sneakin' in -

Andra LYN - editing/re-editing about the 15th-20th time the not-final-draft of Vol III of Cairns... adding the twists & hooks & latest discoveries from CERN, the Higgs Field [ocean]…all the fascinating quantum studies I can bend into hooks, etc etc for the readers, & tie it in with Bleikovat Event & The Missing Planets. How 'bout that for a Sci-Fi nerd's exciting day! Let my curiosity run amok...I luv it! Hope your day is as good.

    1. MomJANE – I enjoyed the slant of the excerpt chosen. Learning from my readers never fails. Grammar of archaic & contemporary speech/vocabulary is woven into any created language/names/spellings…done with character(s) of the Cairns series, plus a few more in Vols II & III of the series. Some of the grammar used so readers can identify dialogue voice(s) without tags…true for any dialect/accent/speech habit(s). Thank U for the ‘clever and unique story line’ comment. Any writer would enjoy hearing that from any reader. Hope U enjoy the written journey as much as I do the write/edit(s) –

    1. LANEY4 - Raised in rural Arkansas, I never `thunk' a fun caper like a school newspaper would lead to star-crossed cosmos sagas. It was a great place to start, & has fueled my Ingram thriller series as well as Murians & Bleikovats & worlds we might be part of...
