Choosing between two hot guys? Not a bad way to turn thirty-five….
Running into an old boyfriend is bad enough, but why does it always happen when you look your worst? Kate Alexander is wearing gray sweats, no makeup, and feels as glamorous as a pile of dirty laundry when she runs into her hunky ex, Ben Mathews. Ben is the only man who’s ever asked her to marry him. And now still single, and closing in on her thirty-fifth birthday, Kate suspects her shelf life is nearing its expiration date. Though Ben once broke her heart she’s convinced fate has brought them together for a second chance at love.

The problem is Declan O’Connor, a sexy Irishman. Kate considers him a friend—except she’s been having some very un-friend like thoughts about him. They shared a hot kiss one night, before Ben reentered her life, and now she can’t stop thinking about it. Despite the attraction with Ben, Kate is remembering her old resentments all too well. But then Ben asks her to marry him again, and her second chance has finally arrived. Is this what she really wants though?

From Seattle to Dublin, from the old to the new, Kate is caught between playing it safe or playing with fire.

“I haven’t scared you away from me?”
I don’t answer him right away. Instead I put my sketch pad down, get up from the chair, and go over to where he’s lying on the couch. For a moment I stand there and then I sit down beside him, so our hips are touching.
“You haven’t scared me away.”
He nods slowly, meeting my gaze. I feel as if I’ve had a few drinks, though I haven’t had anything at all. It occurs to me that I’m not even sure what I’m doing sitting here. Our eyes are still lingering on each other, when he puts his hand up to my face.
“You’re so beautiful,” he murmurs, running his thumb over my chin and bottom lip. “I’ve always thought so.”
I don’t say anything—stunned by the compliment, plus his hand is having a peculiarly strong sexual effect on me and I can barely breathe.

“Come here.” He pulls me towards him. And I know what he wants. Our mouths meet and I can feel his breath, taste his lips, inhale his scent. I’ve never been this close to Declan before and all I can think is that it’s sublime. That’s the word that comes to mind, rolling around in my head. Sublime. Everything about him feels right to me, feels like home, and I have this spiraling sensation that I’m falling down into a place I’ve never been before, but have always wanted to go….
~Meet Andrea!~
Andrea Simonne grew up as an army brat and discovered she had a talent for creating personas at each new school. The most memorable was a surfer chick named "Ace" who never touched a surf board in her life, but had an impressive collection of puka shell necklaces. Eventually she turned her imagination towards writing. Andrea still enjoys creating personas, though these days they occupy her books. She currently makes her home in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and two sons.

  1. thank you for the excerpt, i enjoyed reading it :)

  2. Thanks for being here today! What's going on in your neck of the woods?

  3. Thank you for hosting! My neck of the woods is still trying to stick to her New Year's Resolutions (by my fingernails, but I'm hanging on!)

  4. A lovely and romantic cover it is!

  5. I really enjoyed the excerpt. I haven't read this author yet so I'm looking forward to reading her work.

  6. Choosing between two hot guys when your turning 35 is definately not a bad thing. I would love to read the rest of the story since I loved the excerpt !

  7. I liked the "Meet Andrea" section. The persona I'd like to try is "sexy vixen"; alas, that might be difficult at 55 and being overweight, but you can't blame a girl for trying, LOL! (Actually, I've learned that it isn't how you look, especially as you age, as men our age realize that personality counts for a lot. I have tons of boyfriends, in addition to my husband of 34 years, and it doesn't matter to me how they look either -within reason- but I appreciate their sense of humour, unselfishness, and general niceness a lot more than I did when I could have been a sexy vixen. Thankfully, I believe my husband will always see me as a sexy vixen. YES!!!)

  8. I love the excerpt. Sounds like a great book

  9. The cover is great. I know I would enjoy reading this.

  10. Ooh, I loved the excerpt! It seriously made my heart go pitter patter! Thanks for sharing!
