You turn back, but the door has locked behind you.  Swallowing down the fear, you decide you’re wasting time tugging on a handle that won’t budge. False bravado in place you straighten your spine and head for your car. It’s not that far, you can do it, your shaky inner voice cajoles. Minutes pass and you feel the air become thick and cloying. The familiar, tall buildings now loom over you like giant sentries casting deep shadows, yet offering no refuge. The wind begins to build, sending errant leaves to swirl about your feet, a constant reminder that you need to hurry along.

You’re senses amplify and every small sound becomes another reason to rub away the chills skittering across your flesh. Yet, one stands out amongst the others—footsteps. A quick glance over your shoulder confirms your worst fear. A shadowed, hooded figure trails behind you, matching you step for step. Adrenaline surges through your veins, yet the mysterious stranger keeps pace with your urgent stride, until you can take no more. The sound of boots pounding heavily against the pavement overrides your raspy breath as you run for your life. You gasp in relief as your car comes into site. Twenty more feet and you’ll be safe—and then you see it.

 A wave of swirling mist floats across the ground, gradually rising into the air as it thickens and begins to take shape. Your mind screams to comprehend as you stand frozen at the sight. Has the veil split wide and released the dregs of hell to block your route to freedom? Is the menace behind you a more acceptable fate than the unknown just feet away?

You gasp as a man appears before you, incorporating the mist right into his massive body. He’s big and packed with muscles. Long ebony hair frames a strong jawline, sculpted masculine lips, and piercing, blue eyes. His chest is bare except for a leather harness strapped around his thick shoulders and a silver necklace dangling between his substantial pecs. With each breath, his spectacular abs tighten and release. Black trousers hugging a lean, narrow waist and thick thighs only emphasizes his inherent power. Will you die this night at the hands of the most beautiful creature you’ve ever seen?

Eyes narrowing, he reaches over his shoulder and releases a long, deadly blade. It scrapes from its covering, singing through the chilly night air as he brings it to his side. You feel faint as he rushes toward you, too afraid to even close your eyes. You gasp in surprise as his big hand reaches forward and gently pushes you aside. His flesh is warm and sends tingles racing across your skin. Without breaking stride, the behemoth swings his sword in a wide arc, dragging the tip across the concrete to send brilliant sparks to dance around his magnificent body. He crouches into a battle stance, muscles rippling in anticipation. He faces your pursuer, now frozen in mid-stride at the end of the sidewalk. You gasp as glowing, red eyes brighten beneath the drawn hood before it slowly backs away and blends into the unforgiving shadows.

You watch in stunned silence as the man rises to his full height, reseats his weapon, and turns to you. He gently caresses your cheek, leans forward, and whispers softly next to your ear. The sensual, thick accent blankets you in warmth.

“You’re safe now, sweetness.”

The author’s voice drifts through your mind…”You, my dear, have just met an Insedi warrior. Definitely a TREAT.” *wink*

Lowering his voice, Caelius leaned in even closer. He feared he may have disappointed her, and he didn’t want to miss any part of her expression.

“Does what I do each night bother you?”

She looked up and blinked a few times before she spoke. Her voice came low and husky, and his skin pebbled.

“No. Not in the least. It was the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.” He watched her throat work on a hard swallow before she continued.

“Your body was gleaming and showed off every single muscle as you swung that sword. It was the first time I’d seen your hair down, too. It’s…it’s beautiful. After you won, you worked your way down the row of women and paid each one of them close attention. I’m sure they felt like they were the only person in the room when you looked at them. With every song, your body swayed perfectly to the music, and it mesmerized me. I…uh…yeah…it was great.”

Caelius was having a hard time focusing on her answer. Her jasmine-scented desire had resurfaced and was wreaking havoc on his concentration, not to mention his cock. It was at full length and pushing insistently against his jeans. He said the first thing that came to mind. Something he wanted very badly.
