READ THE BLURB

On the eve of the Battle of Shiloh, Union soldier Tyler Sheridan has a premonition he is going to die. That night, he writes an epic anti-war poem called “Never-ending Night.” The next day, a cannonball explodes in front of him, but rather than walking through the gates of Heaven, Tyler steps into a modern-day Civil War reenactment. Confused by a world he can’t comprehend, Tyler has no choice but to rely on a beautiful and fascinating photojournalist for help. As Stacy Sutton watches Tyler emerge from the rising smoke of faux cannon fire, she’s amazed by the authenticity of his uniform and demeanor—and then he claims to be from the nineteenth century, a mere delusion according to doctors. But Stacy’s not convinced Tyler is delusional and sees helping him as her second chance—an opportunity to atone for the death of her partner...and her past. As the mystery surrounding Tyler’s appearance deepens, it threatens any hope they have of a future together, and Stacy finds she must discover whether the man she loves is a traveller through time or a mad man lost in his own delusions.

My Review:
I've always loved stories that involve time travel and the kind of relationships and stories that trancend their own time periods. I am very glad that I opted to review Never-Ending Night becauseit's just that creative and wonderful kind of story that sticks with you after you're done. There was  such an interest there for me interwoven with lots of different aspects for the story from Shell Shock (or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) to a kind of battle with religion and keeping the faith. I was actually surprised by this last one, because normally topics of religion and faith have me running in the opposite direction. However, within the confines of this suspenseful and intriguing mystery, the faith issues were understandable and even enjoyable for me.

Stacy was an interesting main character. At times I wish I would have been able to see more of her. There were a few scenes where I was just wondering what was going on inside of her head and felt a little dissconnected from her where I would have liked to have been able to dive in deeper. When she finds Tyler walking in the battlefield you could really feel her connection to him and enjoy where the story was going.

I liked that there was a lot of Stacy healing Tyler. A lot of the time, it's the female lead that needs to deal with painful past issues, but in this case you get to see a strong and caring woman try to help Tyler deal with his traumatic past. I know there are a lot of girls and women out there who love the thought of being able to nurse a gorgeous guy back to health and that's exactly what Stacy gets to do.  The complexity of the story and romance really build throughout and I really enjoyed the kind of impossible possibilities that Stowe has created with this book. It kind of makes you think " What If??"

I liked the flow of the story a lot. The romance had a slow build and wasn't one of those instant "soul-mate" moments. You could feel the chemistry building between the two characters a lot quicker than they could, and I liked being able to feel that with them. I mentioned the religion before, and though it was nicely interwoven into the story, I felt like it did overwhelm the plot sometimes. There was nothing overtly preachy, just enough causal references to make me kind of start thinking, "Okay...I get it...got it...let's move on". I definitely still enjoyed the story and the characters though. It was a wonderful break from reality for any history, mystery, sweet romance, etc. buff. Enjoy!

  2. Wow, Andra, thank you for the incredibly detailed review. I really appreciate the different aspects you covered and your insights...and thanks for hosting me today. It's great to be here and I look forward to saying hi to some of your readers.

I'm so glad you liked Stacy. I think I had a hard time delving into Stacy's character because I had no clue where she came from. She's nothing like me and strong enough to create herself!

I have to let you know that I'm in the Middle East right now and there's quite a time difference. I may fall asleep on you but I promise I'll come back and say hi or answer any questions!
