Audrey's Guide to Witchcraft Blog Tour!

Today I've got something special for all you fab followers. It's not just an interview, not just a guest post. Nope, you guys are the lucky recipients of a tasty recipe straight from Jody Gehrman's new YA book: Audrey's Guide to Witchcraft. Audrey is a fabulous cook but not so fabulous when it comes to her new powers and love interests in her life. So she decides to try to combine what she's good at with what she's just learning and the results are...interesting to say the least! Enjoy!

Magical Chocolate Cake Recipe
Warning: May Cause Hotties to Fall Madly in Love With You

by Jody Gehrman

I have to start with a confession: I'm a wretched chef. My husband does all the cooking in our house. I'm barely allowed to butter toast. When I do attempt to make a meal, smoke alarms tend to go off. In my heart, I'm sure I have potential; I come from a long line of wonderful cooks, and I have exquisite taste buds. It's just that I get easily distracted. Sometimes I check my email while the butter's melting--so sue me!

I realize this isn't exactly whetting your appetite for my recipes, but here's the thing: while I may be a disaster in the kitchen, Audrey, the heroine of Audrey's Guide to Witchcraft is a culinary genius. In fact, without giving away too much of the plot, a cake she bakes leads to quite a steamy encounter. Magical chocolate cake tends to do that. Try her recipe if you dare, but don't come running to me if everyone you serve it to falls desperately in love.

Magical Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:
·         4 ounces super awesome (i.e. expensive) bittersweet chocolate
·         1 stick unsalted butter
·         3/4 cup sugar
·         3 eggs
·         1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
·         Fresh berries (optional)
·         Whipped cream and/or caramel (optional)

Directions:
1.    Preheat oven to 375°F and butter an 8-inch round baking pan. Line bottom with a round of wax        paper and butter paper.
2.    Chop chocolate into small pieces. In a double boiler, melt chocolate with butter until smooth.
3.    Whisk sugar into chocolate mixture. Add eggs and whisk well.
4.    Sift ½ cup cocoa powder over chocolate mixture until combined—don’t stir more than needed.
5.    Pour batter into pan and bake 25 minutes, or until thin crust forms on top.
6.    Let cool 5 minutes, then invert onto serving plate. Top with fresh berries, drizzled caramel or  whipped cream if desired.
