Happy Monday my lovely followers! I hope this weekend has treated you well and you all had a fabulous Easter! And if you don't celebrate Easter, then that you had an Amazing Sunday! Due to being extremely, almost insurmountably busy lately, I haven't been participating in my meme's like I used to do. Well, a few of my classes are over, and I have a lot less on my plate so I figured it was time to get back into the swing of things! It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a fabulous meme brought to you by Book Journey and it is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what everyone else is reading! After all, you never know where that next Must Read book will come from!
I also read Shut Out by Kody Keplinger! What is a girl to do when her boyfriend's stupid sports rivalry takes over her love life? Get revenge by witholding Sex of course :) I've had Shut Out on my TBR pile for EVER and I was SO excited to get it in the Spring Book Exchange! I read it it like...3 hours and it was a fabulous 3 hours indeed!
The Stephen King book is The Gunslinger, and I admit the only reason I read it was because I had to for a class. I normally LOVE Stephen King...but this was too...idk...dreamy and had too much Western in it for my tastes...I HAVE to finish the series eventually...but probably not any time soon.
Last but not least was a cutesy contemporary book, Pretty Crooked by Elisa Ludwig. It was not my normal genre, but I really got a kick out of it. It's an adorable mix between Robin Hood and Mean Girls and I can't wait to write my review on it! So...that's what I read last week!
I have been listening to the audiobook of Cinder by Marissa Meyer for a few weeks now. I would have finished it forever ago, but my CD player in my car crapped out and The majority of my audiobook listening time is my commute from home to work or school so I lost a lot of time. Still...I LOVE the story so far. It's a cross between the Terminator and Cinderella and I am so thankful to MacMillian Audio for giving me a copy to review. I am terrified of the ending though...things seem to be leading to a tragedy and I don't want poor Cinder to get hurt!
SO that's what I'm reading this week! I don't know what else I've got on my plate, but I will undoubtedly read a bunch more. I just haven't decided. I think I will be spontaneous and just rifle through my galleys from Net Galley and review a few of the ones I'm behind on....Anywhooo..What about you guys? What are you reading this week? What did you finish last week!?! Tell me! Tell me!
What I Read Last Week:
I read Masquerade by Cambria Hebert for the Read-Along! I know...I cheated...and finished it...but I just couldn't put it down! I don't want to give away too much about it, but it was a fantastic and unexpected twist on the Heaven/Hell aspect of the paranormal genre! I also downloaded the small prequel Before from Amazon to get my Heven/Sam fix!I also read Shut Out by Kody Keplinger! What I'm Reading Right Now
Did you know Stephen King had a son? And that he also writes Horror books? Well...I totally didn't. I was super interested to see how he measures up to his daddy and so far I'm not dissapointed. Horns is hilarious in a sick and twisted kind of way. I'm about 1/4 of the way into it and I am LOVING Hill's writing style even more than his father's confusing and choppy prose. I really enjoyed Cinder!!!
ReplyDeleteHere is mine
I really like it too so far! Especially Icho and Prince Kai!
DeleteHmm - your comments on Masquerade caught my interest. I have been wanting to read Cinder too.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your reading week!
Shut out AWESOME-NESS! I want to read. People have been talking about it for what seems like forever. Hope you enjoy
ReplyDeleteYou had a great reading week! I have been wanting to read Shut-Out! Still need to do that :)
ReplyDeleteI am curious to learn what you thought about Shut Out. I am debating having it in my high school media center. Thus far I am weighing in on the negative side. I also have middle schoolers there and don't want to seem to be endorsing premarital sex. We have a pretty conservative community. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteHmmm...well that is difficult. I really enjoyed Shut Out and I thought it had a great message regarding the different ways that girls approach sex. It talks about it being okay to not feel pressured to have sex until you are ready and that it's okay to wait, but it also has a lot of sexual references and it explores the other side of the coin (girls enjoying sex just as much as guys do) I think that it would be suited for a high school..but probably not a middle school...especially in a conservative area :)
DeleteFirst, congrats on the 900 followers! I read and loved Cinder...I hear she makes an appearance in the next book too :). I've heard good things about Shut Out, but since I'm a junior high teacher, I haven't read it because I've been reading books I could then share with my students. I'll have to take your work on Stephen King type books, I just can't do scary. :)
ReplyDeleteOOOh I finished Cinder last week and it is just sooooooo good!!! Love it, love it! Cannot wait for Scarlet :) Hope you enjoy the rest of it!
ReplyDeleteI loved Cinder. Its such an interesting twist on retelling the Cinderella story
ReplyDeleteI've tried two of Joe Hill's books but they weren't my cup of tea.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite read this week was Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan. Please come see what else I'm reading.
I must admit The Gunslinger is most probably where my love affair with Stephen King started to wane. You can check out my Monday here

I do like Joe Hill. I think he has something of his father's style but he brings a very up to date touch to it.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Horns when I read it last year. I didn't know until after I finished reading it that he is Stephen King's son!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading :)
What I'm Reading @ The Aussie Zombie
I really need to get around to reading Cinder- I have it on my bookshelf and I just never seem to have time for it!
ReplyDeleteNew Follower :-)
My Monday Round Up: http://www.pocketfulofbooks.com/2012/04/its-mondaywhat-am-i-reading.html
Is it just me, or is the girl on the cover of Shut Out a cross between Liv Tyler and Anne Hathaway?
ReplyDeleteI loved Cinder - it was such a cool book! Hope you enjoy the rest. The only thing I didn't like was that the next book will take a year to be released...
New follower.
I've been wanting to read something by Joe Hill...he certainly "hid" his connection to Stephen King with the name....
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your reads!
Here's MY MONDAY MEMES POST
Cinder has been on my list for awhile, it sounds so interesting!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that Stephen King had a son who also wrote...I wonder how his first book idea went over when his name didn't reflect that family connection.
Your books look interesting - I'm not familiar with any of them, so I'll have to check them out.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great reading week!

I loved Horns. I read his other book Heart Shaped Box years ago, so I can't remember exactly what I liked about that one, but I know that I did really like it. You'll have to read it too, if you liked Horns.
ReplyDeletePretty Crooked sounds awesome. I love both Robin Hood and Mean Girls. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI'm hopeless at read a longs, I can't read in bits and pieces! I'm tempted by Horns simply because he is Stephen Kings son.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Book'd Out earlier!

I'm still so undecided about Cinder. I keep reading all these amazing reviews, but the synopsis just sounds bad to me. It's sounds like something I would hate, but so many people are loving it. I just don't know.
ReplyDeleteYou had a great week! Everything looks so good. Hope you have a good week this week.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that Cider is actually pretty good.
