  3. I was literally laughing out loud from the get-go with this book. Narrator and heroine, Jayne Sparks, has bags of personality. She's a funny, twisted, loyal, brave, snarky, teenager always handy with the quick quips, curse words and some turns of phrase I will definitely be adopting. Jayne drew me into the story, and then the friendship between her and Tony led me further down the path, until I eventually hit the crux of the story. From there on I was beguiled by the magic, the action, the darkness that is often balanced out by Jayne's sense of levity, and of course the awesome relationships between the group of runaways. From middle to end, Elle Casey takes the reader on a pure fantasy adventure filled with all manner of forest creatures, paranormal beings and fairy tale monsters. My favourite part of the whole story is when Jayne discovers the tree hugging. If you've read the book you'll know what I'm talking about. I had a stupid-ass grin on my face through the entire scene, it was so charmingly funny.
