So I am a complete and total failboat. Sorry that this is so late, but I definitely forgot all about the read-a-long...*facepalm* Here's my first week of discussion questions!...almost a week late :P
Discussion Questions for Chapters 1-6
1. After reading through Amaliya's 'awakening'... So realistic and freaking horrifying right? *shudders* What are your reactions to such a vivid scene?
I totally loved the opening scene. It was confusing, but in a realistic and original way. I have read a lot of vampire books, but none of them seem to have gotten the fear, the uncertainty, the hazyness that happens with the transition from being a human to a vamp...I don't think I even remember an awakening scene like this at all...very cool. The poor girl...she is so lost...makes me wanna hug her...well...maybe not considering the whole blood orgy thing...but still...
2. I know it's EARLY on, and we've only gotten a glimpse of him, but... In YOUR opinion, the man who made Amaliya into a vampire... friend or foe?
I'm going to say foe. He murders her, leaves her to claw her way out of her own grave, then lets her murder a whole ton of people. She's left to succeed or fail on her own and she's basically a baby....bumbling around, doesn't know what to do...she's bound to get hurt...Who does that to their "children"? I'm thinking foe all the way.
3. Amaliya's family are some PIECES of work aren't they??? While I HOPE no one has a family as freaking crazy nuts as hers... We all have a few nutjobs in our family tree right? Tell me about a crazy member of YOUR family... Or a time when you thought, "Please, NO... I am SO not with them!"
Oh.My.God...I wanted to smack every single one of them. I'm not going to lie...if I was in that situation I would have totally chowed down...It would have been family dinner. Literally. I do have a few nuts in my family...My mom's side seems to have gotten most of the crazy. We have crazy aunt Suzie and Weird Uncle Larry who are married and creepy. Uncle Larry once ate 5 grasshoppers that I caught when I was 12 at a family reunion and Crazy Aunt Suzie once stole a dining room table from her mom. Yeah...don't ask me. It wasn't even a nice table, and it must have been like 300 lbs. Crazy Aunt Suzie indeed.
4. Pete... Awww, Pete... He confesses his unending love for her, then everything goes to hell in a hand-basket! Who is/was YOUR Pete? Did you have a guy who was hopelessly in love with you for years that you never even knew about?
Yeah I totally have a Pete...He was into me all during my junior and senior year of high school. I didn't know it because I was so totally obsessed with another guy. He was so amazing to me, and he is still one of my best friends. We've never dated because one of us is always in a relationship when the other is single...but still...we take super cute photos do we not???
5. Have you started connecting with Amaliya? What specific instance stands out the most for you? (hopefully you are LOVING her hardcore by Chapter 6!)
I just love her strength of character! She is definitely not your typical whiny heroine. She is already strong, different, and badass. I feel like she would be that friend of yours who is sitting with you in the jail cell saying..."well, that was fun". I think we'd be pretty good friends, though I have to say that I would have an easier time with my guilt for killing those crazy people and jerks she had to deal with...
